The SDG5 Network adopts critical approaches to security, specifically incorporating feminist theories into the realm of international security. Critical perspectives challenge conventional security norms by scrutinizing power structures and unveiling how security discourses disproportionately affect diverse gender groups. Interrogating state-centric perspectives, critical security studies within a feminist framework emphasize the need to deconstruct gendered norms embedded in security frameworks. This approach sheds light on how security practices can perpetuate inequalities and marginalize specific gender identities. By integrating a gender perspective, scholars and practitioners aim to uncover hidden power dynamics, illuminate gendered implications, and advocate for inclusive and equitable security practices. This lens broadens the understanding of security, recognizing and addressing the unique vulnerabilities faced by different gender groups within the societal context.
Additionally, the SDG5 Network actively studies and promotes Feminist Foreign Policy, which aligns with critical security perspectives and consists of four pillars: Representation, Rights, Resources, and Reality. This approach calls for increased representation of women in decision-making processes, protection of women’s rights, equitable allocation of resources, and acknowledgment of diverse gender realities. Importantly, SDG5 Network promotes the UN Resolution 1325, recognizing the impact of armed conflict on women and emphasizing the need for their participation in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. The SDG5 Network aspires to establish a national and international network dedicated to studying Feminist Foreign Policy and the UN Resolution 1325. This endeavor seeks to contribute significantly to fostering a more comprehensive and gender-sensitive approach to security. The Network aims to play a pivotal role in promoting inclusive and equitable practices within the realm of security, aligning with the principles outlined in both Feminist Foreign Policy and the UN Resolution 1325. By building connections and collaborations, the SDG5 Network aims to drive positive change and advance gender equality across national and international security agendas.
